AHIMA CHDA (Certified Health Data Analyst) certification results 2023

CHDA first-time testers results for 2023 ...

The pass rate for first-time testers taking the AHIMA CHDA (Certified Health Data Analyst) certification exam in 2023 is 48%.

This is a decrease of 2% from the 2022 results where the pass rate was 50%.

While the percentage of people passing the CHDA exam on first pass decreased, the number of first-time individuals taking the exam increased – from 38 in 2022 to 54 in 2023. A significant accomplishment --- would you agree?

Another meaningful and interesting statistic:

The number of individuals holding the CHDA certification decreased in 2023. The number of CHDA credential holders totaled 333 in 2022. However, AHIMA notes, “As of 12/31/2023, there were 321 certified CHDA professionals --- US and Canada only.”

Question to AHIMA, "Where do we categorize international credential holders? Why are these credential holders not included in the data?”

So …. we have fewer individuals holding the CHDA certification. Why? With more people passing the exam, why has the number of credentialed holders decreased? Maybe some people did not renew with AHIMA? Some individuals did not renew the CHDA credential? This is another study for AHIMA.

Is cost a factor?

The annual cost to renew the CHDA certification is $100.00. The renewal fee is in addition to other charges – membership, etc. Does this impact the number of current credentialed CHDA holders?

Overall, more data is needed to completely assess the CHDA test results.

Other changes that address the CHDA exam ….

The CHDA Exam Content Outline was updated in 2022. A new Domain was added, and changes made to the other five domains. The new domain (now Domain 1) is – Foundational Knowledge of Analytics in Healthcare and covers 14-16% of the exam. This is new material for the exam.

The beta period starts February 1, 2024 for the new CHDA exam.

You may ask “Why” does it matter?

Data is growing exponentially as the world becomes more technical, digital, and universally connected. The impact on healthcare continues to gain momentum and prominence as healthcare data becomes more numerical, with input from a myriad of sources, wearables and devices along with Artificial Intelligence.

The Health Information Professional is not exempt from Big Data but rather, is immersed in the analysis and interpretation of data across the healthcare spectrum. The expansion of data is both an opportunity and a challenge for the Health Information Professional.

We are looking to AHIMA to lead the way for HI Professionals with education, state associations and meaningful presentations.

⭐ 🌟 🎈 Congratulations to all individuals with the CHDA certification and the 54 Data Analyst of 2023 !!
