COVID-19 brings permanent changes to the way we live | We are a "village", we do not live alone

Updated: Apr 20, 2020

Hand washing is one effective way to decrease and kill COVID-19
COVID-19 --- start with hand washing.

Coronavirus – COVID-19 has already shown society that we will make permanent changes to the way we live.

1) Surveillance on wildlife – how and where wildlife is permitted to interact with people especially, in high density urban areas. (More in article: Living with the Future of Pandemics.)

2) Strict enforcement of laws regulating wildlife in the presence of food – should be a “never event.”

3) Monitor and treat diseases as a global event – not a "one-off, individual event" that some governments say, “will pass and we will be back to normal.”

4) Governments managing borders rather than closing borders. “It is clear the current strategy of shutting down large parts of society is not sustainable in the long-term” notes James Gallagher for the BBC News. (https://www.bbc.com/news/health-51963486)

5) Anticipate diseases from animals – before the disease has the opportunity to jump from animals to humans. (Artificial intelligence is a major player).

6) Educate and prepare the public for pandemics – which are sure to occur – foods, working conditions, travel, along with economic and financial preparedness are required to survive and thrive.

7) Most of all — each individual must remain diligent and own their respective interactions, contributions and events that impact others in the ongoing challenge to global living – collectively, we are the village; we do not live alone.

Suggestions I disagree with —

Prepare and have vaccines ready in anticipation of the next virus or disease. Meaning – a vaccine to treat an individual virus or, vaccines that would treat a large spectrum of viruses or diseases. Broad-spectrum antibiotics come to mind – the advantages and disadvantages. The destructive nature of broad-spectrum antibiotics is well documented – from weakening an individual’s immune system to the resistance imposed to healthcare workers in the clinical environment.

The benefits for Genetic Preparedness to manage viruses is expected and respected; however, a Broad-Spectrum Vaccine delivers risks that are too unknown to bring to market.
