Retail Healthcare is anticipated to continue and expand in 2023 …
Some industry leaders advise that, "the amount of healthcare business conducted through retail outlets will double during 2023". While I am not that aggressive, I have advised over the past few years that the Retailers have entered the healthcare space and are “here to stay”.
Retail Disrupters – Amazon, Google, Walmart, CVS, and others, offering healthcare services that have traditionally been delivered by hospitals, clinics or doctors’ practices can now be >>> Safely <<< delivered in outpatient settings --- for example, a community center or an individual’s private residence.
Retail healthcare providers offer advantages that the public finds favorable, comfortable, and financially enlightening over the traditional healthcare model --- cost / payment is known upfront.
>>> Retail healthcare is generally more accessible – how often do you pass a WMT of CVS on your daily travels as opposed to a doctor’s office or medical complex?
>>> Appointments are generally easier to book and may, very well, be available as “walk-in”.
Retail disruption is only One change
that Healthcare will continue to experience.
Financial disruption is close to follow.
My take ~~~
When I read of the continuing requirements from CMS, HHS, AHA, CDC, etc., my belief and trust in the Disrupters (delivery model, structure, objectives, etc.) continue to grow. Hospitals, providers, payers, and all associated Entities are enduring the constant annual / semi-annual and monthly changes to maintain compliance (audits to follow up payment and recoup are never-ending). While the Disrupters (AMZN, GOOG, AAPL, WMT, CVS, etc.) must provide Safe and Effective health care, they do not need, nor are they subject to, the ongoing changing requirements of federal governance.
The future of Healthcare is a great departure from the way we worked (enjoyed) healthcare in the past … financially the divergence will be an awakening.
