World Health Organization establishing standards – Human Genome editing

Updated: Apr 18, 2020

WHO has established an expert panel to develop global #standards for #governance and oversight of human #genome editing. Standards are required to minimize risk to human health and assure ethical standards of genetic technology are maintained by the practicing medical community.

To maintain transparency and operate with ethical best practices, the advisory committee will establish and operate with a central registry on human genome editing research. Over the next two years, the committee will solicit input, provide recommendations, and operate as an information resource while establishing governance applicable at the international, national and local level.
